Saturday, February 2, Neighborhood Street Cleanup
10 a.m.-noon, sponsored by the Aquarium of the Pacific
Help the ocean, and get a FREE admission ticket to the Aquarium of the Pacific by participating in the annual street cleanup. The Aquarium invites the public to join them at Cesar E. Chavez Park in Long Beach to help stop trash from entering into the Pacific Ocean. In Long Beach and many other cities, trash and runoff that enter storm drains go directly into the ocean. To help stop this from happening, the Aquarium is organizing this cleanup effort and encouraging Southland residents to help reduce ocean pollution by also picking up trash in their own neighborhoods throughout the year. The goal of the program is to teach participants of all ages that cleaning up trash in our cities actually keeps it from polluting our region's rivers, beaches, and ocean. In exchange for a bag of trash collected at the Aquarium's street cleanup location, each participant will receive a free ticket to the Aquarium, valid for one year. Bags, gloves, refreshments, and a spirit of camaraderie will be provided.
