Greetings LongBeachGreenGuide.com visitors!
For those of you who use this site regularly--thank you for returning. And for those of you who are new--welcome to LBGG.
LongBeachGreenGuide.com was born out of my passion for moving along the green continuum—and out of my frustration from not having a one-stop resource guide for finding eco-friendly products and services in Long Beach (California). So I decided to create a website that would provide this type of information in an easy-to-use format.
Launched in October 2007 as a lean, green, online directory, LBGG has grown steadily over the nearly three years with new businesses, organizations, activities, health services and events being added on a regular basis. Many events and workshops are offered by the El Dorado Nature Center and the City of Long Beach holds monthly clean-up days to help improve the look of our streets and neighborhoods.
In addition to a growing number of green groups, the City of Long Beach now has an Office of Sustainability with its own website pages. CSULB's College of Continuing and Professiional Education also currently offers courses in green, sustainable practices (www.ccpe.csulb.edu).
At the community level, Catalyst.org launched Green! Long Beach in 2009 and held its first Long Beach Green! Festival in the East Village District. 2010's festival was held in May, bringing out vendors, local businesses and visitors interested in learning about a more sustainable lifestyle.
Long Beach has much to offer, as you will find throughout the LBGG pages, from farmers' markets and composting classes to urban garden pioneers and water conservation programs.
Peruse the site. Visit businesses virtually. Buy locally. Make sustainable choices. Ultimately, our actions and the way we spend our green dollars can create a positive impact on both our environment and community.
Thanks for stopping by.
